Sulfate-free washing products -
What does it mean ?

In recent years, the cosmetics industry has been talking about various ingredients in hair care products and more. Some of these are considered harmful to the hair and scalp, others are not. One of these ingredients is sulfates.
Concern about sulfates has to do with their effect on the scalp and hair. But what are sulfates?
Sulfates are surfactants, ie synthetic detergents, cheap, used in shampoos, shower gels, toothpastes, etc. due to their cleaning action. They create that foam, which we associate with cleansing the scalp and hair and because they are so effective in cleaning the hair, they remove natural oils from the hair. Surely these hair oils have their role in protecting the hair.
Not all sulfates are "harmful." A product with a "sulfate-free" brand, however, contains other cleansing agents, otherwise it would not foam but which have a milder effect on the skin, scalp and hair.

Choose to use a sulfate-free shampoo when:

When you look at the list of ingredients there are 2 names to look for and which you must avoid: sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES).
Why? SLS is a rather toxic and irritating ingredient, the most powerful cleansing agent and SLES, although it is considered milder than SLS, can still cause scalp irritation and hair dryness.
1. Do you have curly hair? You know, this hair is by definition dry hair, so when looking for a shampoo for curly hair you must avoid the 2 ingredients mentioned above and shampoos, which also contain these 3 ingredients: Ammonium lauryl sulfate, Sodium Coco Sulphate and Ammonium laureth sulfate. It would be preferable to use a sulfate-free shampoo, because detergents remove natural hair oils, thus leaving hair dry. Is frizz a problem? Then you should choose a sulfate-free shampoo, because sulfates create a static charge, which after shampooing causes frizz.
2. If your scalp has the following symptoms: redness, itching, irritation you should also choose a sulfate-free shampoo, as sulfates can cause these irritations.
3. Do you have dry, fine or damaged hair? Avoid using shampoos with sulfates, because this hair is more fragile and sulfates remove natural oils from the hair, necessary to maintain it healthy.
4. Do you dye your hair? If so, then it is advisable to use a shampoo without sulfates, because sulfates will dry your hair even harder, which is drier anyway due to the chemical color. Also, keeping the hair color for a longer period of time is determined by the type of shampoo you use. Using a sulfate-free shampoo will help to dye your hair less often, because the dye will keep longer.
5. Shampoos that do not contain SLS can clean the hair just as well. It is a myth that only if the shampoo produces a lot of clean and good foam. There are shampoos that do not make a lot of foam and yet the result is clean hair and scalp. If you add the use of a conditioner to your hair care routine, then you don't have to worry, as long as the scalp is not irritated and your hair looks good.
6. Sodium laureth sulphate or ammonium laureth sulphate are harmful to the environment. The fact that the name of these sulafti ends in "eth" shows that the ethoxylation process was used for their production. Ethoxylation is far from a clean process and is not allowed according to organic standards due to the polluting effect on the environment.
7. No more tears! Sulfate-free shampoos do not cause eye irritation compared to traditional shampoos.
8. Sulfate-free shampoos can be used for any hair type.
